These toqillas are tied to the size of the hat, made with knotted macramé. The artisan holds the weaving on her belt, allowing her to move easily while weaving and aligning the threads vertically. To create the pattern, she alternates the threads horizontally with double knots. These incredible women, who live in an isolated Indigenous community in the mountains of Chiapas, hand-weave these colorful hatbands.
